Bookmarklets for Your Browser

Readability add-ons are available for web browsers on your Mac or PC, but not for most smartphone and tablet browsers. We do offer bookmarklets that you might be able to use to add Read Now, Read Later, and Send to Kindle to your web browser.

For these to work in your chosen browser, you will need to be able to create and edit bookmarks.

Note: Each bookmarklet needs to be installed one at a time.

  1. First, choose the bookmarklet you would like to install and copy the code from the textbox below.

    Read Now

    Read Later
Log In or Sign Up to read on your time.

    Send to Kindle

  2. Create a new bookmark for this page. If you are prompted to edit the bookmarklet, replace the address or URL with the code copied in the previous step.
  3. If you were not prompted to edit the bookmark in the previous step, navigate to the bookmark you created. (The location of your bookmarks is dependent on your browser.) Replace the address or URL of the bookmark with the code you copied in the first step.
  4. While not necessary, you'll probably want to change the name of the bookmark to the Readability action; "Read Now", "Read Later", or "Send to Kindle".

If you run into trouble or have questions about a specific browser contact us or message us on Twitter.

Readability for iOS

Readability add-ons are available for web browsers on your Mac or PC, but not for mobile Safari on iOS. Follow these instructions to add Read Now, Read Later, and Send to Kindle to your mobile web browser.

Note: Each bookmarklet needs to be installed one at a time.

  1. First, choose the bookmarklet you would like to install and copy the code from the textbox below. To copy: tap once on the code, tap Select All then tap Copy.

    Read Now

    Read Later
Log In or Sign Up to read on your time.

    Send to Kindle

  2. Next, click Safari's Add Bookmark icon (Add Bookmark Icon). Select “Add Bookmark” and without making any changes, bookmark this page by clicking “Save.”
  3. Now click on the Bookmarks icon (Bookmarks Icon) to reveal your bookmarks. Navigate to your new bookmark and click “Edit” in the corner of the bookmarks window.
  4. Select your newly created bookmark and change the name to the item you copied above (e.g., “Read Now”).
  5. Next, delete the URL shown and paste the code you copied in step 1: tap the URL shown in the second field, tap "Select All", tap "Paste".
  6. Tap "Done" on the keyboard, which will return you to the list of bookmarks. Tap "Done" to finish editing bookmarks. Tap "Done" a third time to close the bookmarks list.

Good job! Do that for each and you should wind up with three bookmarks in mobile Safari: Read Now, Read Later, and Send to Kindle.
