Most modern cars are equipped with the latest in car safety technologies to prevent collisions and car accidents on the road. When shopping for a car, look for these five technologies.
Automatic Emergency Braking
AEB, or automatic emergency braking systems have sensors and small cameras to check for potential collisions- if one happens, then the car goes into auto-brake mode if the driver fails to respond in time.
Forward Collision Warning
Forward Collision Warning is slightly different from AEB in that the driver gets an alert if a collision is likely to happen. Unlike AEB, the brakes are not auto-applied as it has to be done manually.
Lane Departure Warning
Another safety feature in automobiles, LDW systems use cameras to check if the car is staying in one lane and will alert the driver if he or she is drifting out. It’s been said that car accidents caused by fatigue or inattention can be reduced by up to 21%. However, these things are still likely to happen. Blind Spot Detection
A feature that’s becoming more and more common, BSD uses sensors to tell the driver if there is another vehicle present when changing lanes. BSD checks the driver’s blind spot and is believed to reduce lane change accidents by up to 23%.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Adaptive Cruise Control is a welcome feature for those who often drive for long hours or in heavy traffic. ACC systems utilize sensors to check for a safe distance between the vehicle and the one in front of it.
Other driver safety features include a pedestrian detection system and rear-view cameras, which can help spot incoming collisions with objects or people. The more of these technologies your car has, the safer the driving experience.
