Game developer company Blizzard is set to bring back its BlizzCon event in 2023.
BlizzCon was canceled in 2021 due to the surge of the pandemic, while later during the year the company was rocked by a sexual harassment and discrimination suit by employees. In a recent statement, Blizzard says that they’re focused on progressing game development and experiences, as well as teams instead of putting in an effort to put on a convention.
Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard, mentioned in a Los Angeles Times interview that they are planning to bring back BlizzCon in 2023. The event showcased big announcements, esports competitions, a cosplay showdown and developer panels, among others.
As part of the shift, the game developer may be making several changes such as blending the major event with smaller, in-person gatherings. However, Blizzard still has a year to implement new and unique ideas for its yearly presentation.
