Deciding on whether to buy a condo or a single-family house is a hard choice as there are advantages and disadvantages in each aspect. Consider these factors before moving and investing in a new property.
Location
When looking for a new home, location is an important factor. Condos like the Upperhouse reduce stress and save efforts in commuting to places you need to go every day, with easy access to transportation and recreation like a park or cultural spots. It is near your work, school, convenience stores, places to buy produce, entertainment districts, and more. Homes in an urban area are usually situated farther from the town center, so in terms of location, it is a good choice to go with a condo over a house.
Maintenance
A benefit of buying a condo is that maintenance is covered by the association. External maintenance such as painting, landscaping, pool care, and internal maintenance like plumbing, electricity, and gas are usually also covered by a fee that’s paid monthly by the residents of the condo to their homeowners’ association.
Size
Condos have walls that are connected to neighbors and have rules and regulations that have to be followed like parking, throwing trash, decorations, and pets. Changes made and renovations for the home will need permission from the HOA. On the other hand, if you are an owner of a house, you are free to renovate your home as you want.
Cost
Condos cost less compared to a house, and fees paid to use amenities and other stuff around the condo are for a reasonable price. A condo is a good option for a limited budget. Looking through the finances of the condo association is important before you buy the unit to see if there are any upcoming major projects and other fees that may be added to the normal monthly fee to cover any extra expenses made.
