Back in 2012, Finbarr got the opportunity to join a local pilot project that was managed by the Sligo County Council. The project was funded by SEUPB and it dealt with the research of various models of the town. The sole purpose of this project was to promote an active partnership between the Council and the business community. This research was essential in informing the Council’s decision to adopt a Business Improvement District (BID) model for the regeneration of the Sligo town center. The BID model would be used extensively across the town as it offered a mechanism for businesses to come together to invest in and drive the regeneration of their town or city center. The managers from a UK-based town center place came to analyze the project. They were extremely satisfied with the performance of the team members. The team was successful in meeting all the KPIs and even outperformed some of the other project partners. This had been possible because of the direction and vision of Finbarr as he was at the helm of the project.
A Business Improvement District, or BID, is a designated area in which businesses collaborate to improve the local economy. In order to be successful, a BID must have the support of the business community. This was the case in Sligo Town, where the success of the recent project, directed by Finbarr, led to a plebiscite on initiating a BID. The vote was overwhelming in favor of establishing a BID, and work is now underway to create an action plan. The aim of the BID is to make Sligo Town a more attractive place to do business, through initiatives such as beautification projects and events that showcase the area’s unique character. With the support of the business community, the Sligo Town BID has the potential to make a positive impact on the local economy.
The Sligo Business Improvement District (BID) was established in 2016 following a successful plebiscite. The BID is funded by a levy on local businesses and is overseen by a board of directors, of which Finbarr is a member. The BID exists to promote and improve the Sligo business community and has recently held its second plebiscite. This time also the BID has received an overwhelming 80% vote in favor of extending the five-year term. It was Finbarr’s vision that led to the success of the first project. He then served as the project’s first Chair of Sligo BID for three years and remains actively involved as a board member. Under his leadership, the BID has made significant progress in promoting Sligo as a thriving business destination. His experience in various industries has helped to develop one of the best BIDs in Sligo Town. He is an expert in time management because he also has to run his Centra store. It is because of his time management skills, leadership skills, and expertise in various departments that made him the leader of the BID project.
Finbarr is now a proactive member of the town center management team and is always looking for ways to promote Sligo as a destination of choice. He was instrumental in the development of the town’s marketing strategy and its implementation. He also worked closely with the town’s business association to develop a range of initiatives to support businesses and attract visitors. Finbarr has a deep understanding of the town’s history and culture, and he is passionate about promoting its unique offering to both residents and visitors. He is always willing to go above and beyond to ensure that Sligo continues to be a vibrant and welcoming place to live, work, and visit.
